Commercial sectional doors are made up of horizontal panel sections that stack as the door opens. When a section is damaged — dented from forklift contact, cracked from impact, face skin separated from moisture, or structurally buckled — it can often be replaced individually without replacing the entire door. This is both more economical and faster than full door replacement and it is the right approach in most impact damage scenarios we see.

Assessing Panel Damage

Not all panel damage is equal. A dented face skin on a standard commercial steel section may be repairable or may just be cosmetic — the structural integrity of the panel rail that runs across the top and bottom of each section is what matters for the door to function correctly. If the rail is straight the door still operates correctly and the damaged section is a cosmetic issue. If the rail is bent or kinked the section needs replacement. A structurally compromised section creates problems at the hinges, at the track where the rollers in the damaged section track differently from the others, and at the weatherstripping between sections.

Sourcing Replacement Sections

Commercial door panel sections are not universal. The height of each section, the panel design, the steel gauge, and the insulation type all need to match the existing door. For Amarr commercial doors we can source replacement sections from our supply channels for most current and recent-production models. Older discontinued doors can be harder to match — we assess whether a compatible section is available or whether the full door needs replacing.

KnockOut and SuperFlex Sections

If forklift contact is a recurring problem on a specific door we recommend upgrading the lower two or three sections to KnockOut or SuperFlex specification — impact-resistant sections that take forklift contact, deform slightly, and reset without tool replacement. The incremental cost over standard sections is recovered quickly in avoided panel replacement calls if the door is in a high-forklift-traffic area.
