When a vehicle hits your building, securing the opening is the most urgent step after safety. An exposed garage or storefront is vulnerable to weather, theft, and further structural movement. CCGDS provides same-day emergency board-up and securing across Metro Vancouver — 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
What We Do on Arrival
We start with a quick structural check. Before we board anything, we need to know whether the opening is safe to work around. If the header has shifted or the frame has racked significantly, we adjust our approach accordingly.
Once we have cleared the hazard assessment, we:
- Install heavy-gauge plywood or temporary sheeting to close the opening against weather and unauthorized entry
- Brace the temporary closure where the structural opening allows
- Document the damage in writing and with photographs — this record goes directly into your ICBC or insurance claim file
- Advise whether the space is safe to use before full repair is completed
We leave the site secured. You will not have an open garage overnight.
Why Documentation at This Stage Matters
The damage you have right now — before anything is touched, cleaned, or removed — is the most important record for your insurance claim. ICBC adjusters and home insurers both need to see the pre-repair state. We document as part of our securing process, so you have a professional written record and photographs on file before a single component is moved.
If you have already opened an ICBC claim, we coordinate with your adjuster’s timeline before any structural repairs begin.
What ICBC and Home Insurance Cover for Board-Up
If a third-party driver caused the damage, emergency securing is typically included as a mitigation cost under the ICBC property damage claim. It limits further damage, which is in ICBC’s interest. We provide the invoice and documentation ICBC needs to include board-up in the settlement.
For fire damage, your home or commercial property insurance applies. Same approach: open the claim first, secure immediately, and let the adjuster document the damage before structural repairs begin.
