LiftMaster GH Gearhead Hoist Operator
The GH is LiftMaster’s gearhead hoist — the heavy industrial member of the Logic 5.0 family, rated for 25 cycles per hour and more than 90 cycles per day, with the widest horsepower range in the commercial line: 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/2, 2 and 3 HP.
Gearhead means the reduction happens in a gearbox rather than through a belt and chain stack. On a high-cycle industrial door that is what keeps the drive train from becoming the maintenance item.

LiftMaster’s product page states more than 90 cycles per day for the GH. A LiftMaster PDF elsewhere states up to 125 cycles per day distributed over a minimum eight-hour period. We quote the product-page figure above and confirm duty with LiftMaster when an application sits near the limit.
GH against the rest of the LiftMaster commercial line
The line splits cleanly by duty, and the cycle counts are published:
- Light duty — LJ8900W (sectional) and LJ8950W (rolling), 10 cycles/hour and
fewer than 25/day.
- Medium duty — MJ, MH, MHS, MT: 12 cycles/hour, fewer than 50/day, 1/2 HP, 115 V.
- Standard industrial — J, H, T: 25/hour, up to 90/day, 1/3 to 1 HP.
- Heavy industrial — GH and GT: 25/hour, more than 90/day, up to 3 HP on the GH.
- Apartment — APT: more than 100 cycles/day, 1/2 HP, quick-disconnect with
automatic reconnect.
Count the real cycles before choosing. A loading dock door in a busy distribution centre can exceed 90 cycles in a single shift, and that is a GH conversation rather than a J.
Hoist, trolley or jackshaft?
The mounting decides itself once you look at the opening:
- Hoist (GH, H) — side-mount, with a chain hoist for manual operation. The
answer for rolling steel and high-lift doors.
- Trolley (GT, T) — ceiling-suspended, pulling the door along a rail. Standard
lift sectional doors where the ceiling is clear.
- Jackshaft (J, MJ) — mounts on the torsion shaft itself. The retrofit answer
when the ceiling is full of sprinklers, ducting or racking.
On a retrofit the ceiling usually makes the decision for you.
Key features
- Logic 5.0 control board across the industrial line.
- Available in single and three phase, including 575 V.
- Gearhead reduction rather than a belt-and-chain stack.
- Six horsepower options — the broadest range in the LiftMaster commercial range.
Authorized LiftMaster dealer in Metro Vancouver
CCGDS is an authorized LiftMaster dealer. On commercial work the important part is matching the duty rating to how the door is actually used — an operator specified for 90 cycles a day on a door that runs 300 will fail early, and that failure is a specification error, not a product defect. We size from the real cycle count.
Installation, service and repair across the Lower Mainland
We install, service and repair LiftMaster commercial operators in Richmond, Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Delta, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Langley and North Vancouver. Typical work: commissioning and limit setup on a new install, diagnosing a control board or input fault, replacing worn drive components, and adding safety devices — photo eyes, sensing edges, light curtains — to an operator already in service.
