Manaras Opera-SH Industrial Jackshaft Operator
The Opera-SH — model code OSH — is Manaras’s industrial jackshaft with a drum-band solenoid brake, rated 25 cycles per hour and more than 100 cycles per day. Manaras describes it as a super-duty jackshaft, and the build backs that up: cast-iron flanged pillow-block bearings, an emergency chain hoist with floor-level engagement, and roughly 96 lb of machine.
The solenoid brake is the reason to choose it over an Opera-J. On a heavy door, a mechanical brake eventually lets the door creep; an electric drum-band brake holds position and stops the door where the limit says it should stop.

No horsepower figure is published for the Opera-SH on its product page or on its 2024 specification sheet. An older 2016 brochure says “up to 1 HP” — that is a single, dated source and we treat it as unconfirmed rather than printing it as a specification. Horsepower and voltage are set through the Operator Codes system at order time.
When the solenoid brake actually earns its place
Three situations make the brake worth the money rather than a line item to cut:
The door is heavy and the opening is tall. Gravity works on a stopped door all day. A mechanical brake wears; a drum-band solenoid brake holds.
The door has a safety edge or light curtain. Entrapment protection is only as good as the stopping distance behind it. A door that coasts after the reverse signal has effectively less protection than its paperwork claims.
The door sits at a mid-stop. If you use a partial-open position for ventilation or pedestrian traffic, the operator has to hold it there reliably.
Specifying an Opera-SH correctly
Confirm these before the order goes in, because none of them can be changed in the field:
- Enclosure rating. Nema 1 is standard. A wash bay, a food-processing room or an
exterior wall needs Nema 4/12 or 4X — specify it up front.
- Voltage and phase, through the Operator Codes string. Verify the building’s
actual service rather than the drawings.
- Mounting side and hood clearance. The unit mounts wall, hood or shelf on
either side, but the chain hoist needs a clear drop to floor level.
- Entrapment protection. Monitored devices need a monitored control board; that
is a board-level decision, not an accessory you add later.
Key features
- Drum-band solenoid brake with emergency chain hoist, engaged from floor level.
- Cast-iron flanged pillow-block bearings rather than pressed bearings.
- Accu-cam limit system — settings survive manual operation and motor removal.
- Nema 1 enclosure standard; Nema 4/12 and 4X available.
Authorized Manaras dealer in Metro Vancouver
CCGDS is an authorized Manaras dealer. On this line that matters more than usual, because Manaras does not sell a finished part number off a shelf — horsepower, voltage, frequency and enclosure are selected through the Operator Codes ordering system when the unit is built. Getting that string right the first time is the difference between a unit that drops in and one that goes back.
Manaras publishes no list pricing anywhere; every specification sheet directs the reader to inside sales. We quote from the current sheet for your opening rather than from a number found on a reseller page.
Installation, service and repair across the Lower Mainland
We install, service and repair Manaras commercial operators in Richmond, Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Delta, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Langley and North Vancouver. Typical work: commissioning and limit setup on a new install, diagnosing a control board or input fault, replacing worn drive components, and adding safety devices — photo eyes, sensing edges, light curtains — to an operator already in service.
