Manaras Radio Receiver Compatibility — Matching Transmitters to the Right Unit

Why the receiver choice matters

A commercial operator only responds to the transmitter its receiver understands. Swap the operator brand but keep the old transmitters, and the receiver becomes the bridge — or the bottleneck. Manaras builds two current commercial receivers. One speaks fixed code only. The other speaks both. Knowing which you have, or which you need, prevents a truck roll with the wrong box.

The two models in the field

RADIORE900 — fixed code only

The RADIORE900 is a single-language receiver. It pairs with an unlimited number of fixed-code (dip-switch) transmitters — the older Series “0” Manaras-Opera remotes and any current fixed-code transmitters Manaras sells. It will not learn a rolling-code transmitter. If your fleet uses dip-switch remotes and you have no plan to change them, this unit keeps the system simple.

  • NEMA 1 enclosure standard; NEMA 4 available as an option with external antenna kit
  • “Learn” button and LED on the face
  • Retrofits older Manaras-Opera fixed-code receivers without replacing transmitters
  • Compatible with most commercial operator brands when wired into their control inputs

RADIORE901 — universal, dual-mode

The RADIORE901 is the only current Manaras receiver that learns both languages. It accepts an unlimited number of fixed-code (dip-switch) transmitters and up to 50 rolling-code transmitters. That capacity ceiling — 50 rolling-code remotes — is the only hard limit in the line.

  • Controls one operator (one door)
  • Same NEMA 1 base enclosure, same learn-button/LED layout
  • Optional NEMA 4 enclosure (RADIORE901B), commercial antenna (RADIORE901A), and coaxial cable kits (CABLEKIT001/001A)
  • Retrofits any older Manaras-Opera transmitter, rolling or fixed
  • Compatible with most commercial operator brands when paired with a Manaras-Opera transmitter

Mixed fleets: the practical decision tree

All transmitters are dip-switch (fixed code)

Either receiver works. The RADIORE900 costs less and does the job. Choose the 901 only if you want the option to add rolling-code remotes later without swapping the receiver.

All transmitters are rolling code

You need the RADIORE901. The 900 cannot learn them.

Mixed fleet — some dip-switch, some rolling code

You need the RADIORE901. It is the only model that runs both simultaneously. The 50-remote rolling-code limit applies across the fleet, not per transmitter type.

Replacing a failed receiver on an existing system

Check the transmitters in use. If any are rolling code, the replacement must be a 901. If all are fixed code, a 900 restores function — but a 901 future-proofs the bay.

Wiring into non-Manaras operators

Both receivers output a dry contact closure (normally open) when a valid transmitter signal is received. That contact wires into the operator’s control terminals — typically the “open” or “push-button” input. The manufacturer states compatibility with most commercial operator brands. In practice, this means LiftMaster, LiftMaster Maxum, GDI, Hörmann, and other operators that accept a momentary dry-contact input. The receiver does not speak proprietary bus protocols (Security+ 2.0, MyQ, BiSecur, etc.). It acts as a wireless push button. If the operator requires encrypted handshake or serial data, a Manaras receiver will not integrate — you need that brand’s own receiver.

Antenna and enclosure choices

The base NEMA 1 enclosure is rated for indoor, dry locations. Mount it inside the operator control box or on the adjacent wall. For exterior walls, wash-down areas, or any location where water, dust, or chemical spray reach the box, order the NEMA 4 enclosure option (RADIORE901B for the 901; the 900 sheet lists a NEMA 4 option without a distinct part number). Pair it with the commercial antenna kit (RADIORE901A) and coaxial cable (CABLEKIT001 or 001A) to move the antenna outside the metal operator housing. Metal enclosures kill range. The antenna needs line of sight to the transmitters.

Programming procedure — same for both

1. Apply power to the receiver. LED flashes once.

2. Press and release the Learn button. LED goes solid.

3. Press the transmitter button you want to pair. LED flashes rapidly — pairing confirmed.

4. Repeat step 3 for each additional transmitter.

5. Wait 10 seconds with no activity. LED returns to idle. Programming mode exits automatically.

Fixed-code transmitters can also be matched by setting their dip switches to the receiver’s code (or vice versa) instead of using the Learn button. Rolling-code transmitters must use the Learn sequence — there are no dip switches to set.

Common misdiagnoses

Transmitter works at 3 feet, not at 30

Usually antenna placement. The receiver sits inside a steel operator cabinet. Move the antenna outside with a coax kit. Check for cut or kinked coax. Check that the antenna element is vertical.

Operator activates randomly

Neighbouring facility on the same fixed code. Fixed code has 256 (8-switch) or 4,096 (12-switch) combinations. In dense industrial parks, collisions happen. Rolling code eliminates this — each transmission is unique. If you see ghost activations, migrate to rolling-code transmitters and a 901 receiver.

New transmitter won’t learn

Battery low. LED on the transmitter should be bright. If the receiver already has 50 rolling-code remotes stored (901 only), it will reject the 51st. You must clear the memory and re-learn the active fleet.

Receiver LED never lights

No power. Check the 24 VAC/VDC supply from the operator’s control transformer. Verify wiring to the receiver’s power terminals. A dead receiver is rare; a loose spade connector is common.

When to call a technician

You can wire and program these receivers yourself if you read ladder logic and are comfortable working inside a live control panel. Most property managers and facility leads are not. The risks: 120/240 VAC in the same enclosure, miswired safety circuits that disable entrapment protection, and voided operator warranties if the manufacturer traces a failure to third-party receiver wiring.
